Ride and handling are quite good.
One Liner
Hyundai's small-car strategy in America is built around three words: value, value, value.
Comparison
With a base sticker of about $12,000, the Elantra stacks up well against such Japanese stalwarts as the Toyota Corolla, not to mention one of our personal favorites, the Ford Focus.
Car and DriverMost Liked
The GT has cute Saab-like styling.
Chicago TribuneMost Liked
Driver's seat slides back so far a six-footer has to stretch to reach the pedals.

Purple looks good [on the Elantra GT's gauges] and makes the gauges easier to see
One Liner
Hyundais long have meant function; GT adds a dash of fun.
New Car Test DriveComparison
Pound-for-pound it matches the Honda Civic in several areas on the overall refinement scale. Much like the Focus ZX3 and the VW Jetta, the Elantra's chassis feels light yet sturdy.
The Car ConnectionLeast Liked
There isn't much grunt at lower engine speeds.
Most Liked
The Elantra GT (5-door) is arguably the best value in the class.
The Detroit NewsMost Liked
Interior noise was unusually low for a car in this class, with an absence of squeaks or rattles.
Model ReviewsLeast Liked
Rear-seat headroom is cramped.

One of the best warranties in the business.
The Hyundai Elantra is an economic compact car with handsome styling and nice lines. It has excellent interior space and standard safety equipment. The current generation Elantra can seat up to five and has very accommodating trunk space. Three trim levels are offered: Blue, GLS, and SE. All use a 138-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard issue on the Blue trim, while a four-speed automatic is standard on the GLS and SE trim. Safety features on all Elantra models include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. For 2010, the entry-level Blue trim has been added. Also, the front grill and rear garnish are visually refreshed.
